Inside the updated Wortschatz trainer

Remember words by using them

Explore 1,086 unique words and phrases across all 24 lessons. Search German or English and filter by lesson, topic, word type or learning status. Some entries appear in both courses, so course counts overlap.

Recall before you reveal

Switch between Word First and Meaning First. Reveal a flashcard’s answer before marking it Learning or Known, and use Test Your Memory for a short practice batch.

Listen, write and learn articles

Hear German pronunciation with your browser’s speech voice, practise Listen & Write, and train der, die and das. Noun articles use consistent blue, red and green colours.

Small batches, regular review

Choose 10 or 15 words. Use memory associations and visual cues where available, then return for daily review. Known words are scheduled after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.

Pronunciation audio depends on German speech voices available in your browser or device. Memory hints are associations to help recall a word.

How it works

A simple routine for every lesson

  1. Learn

Read the short explanation with examples and the typical mistakes to avoid.

  2. Practise

Recall a word before revealing it, practise its article, or listen and type what you hear. Work through 10–15 words at a time.

  3. Test

Pass the lesson quiz (60 %) to complete the lesson, then take the module test.

  4. Review

Use Daily review and Review due words. Track New, Learning and Known words as spaced repetition schedules your next check.
